PDX Beer Week is one of the most exciting moments of the year for the local brewing community. With dozens of unique events happening around the city brewers are given the opportunity to do some heavy experimenting in the brewhouse. Hopworks is participating in some of the week’s most talked-about festivals and we have a couple of our own surprises. We are also tapping a new beer in both brewpubs every day during the festivities. Learn more below.

Rye Beer Fest

When: June 10, 4pm – 2am
Location: East Burn – 1800 E. Burnside St. Portland
More Info

The Rye Beer Fest, a celebration of the revival of rye beers and will be held at EastBurn (1800 E. Burnside St., Portland, Oregon) on June 10. The fest will take place on Friday June 10th, from 4 p.m. until 2 a.m. and will feature 20 rye beers. The cost of the fest is $10 and includes a glass and four tickets good for 1 beer or 4 (4 ounce) samples. This year we have added a focus on rye whiskey. For $10 get a whiskey back variety card which includes 3 (1/2 once) shots. From 7-9pm don’t miss out on mixologist Jacob Grier creating his the official rye beer fest beer cocktail. Then starting at 10 am live music starts. It is sure to be a good time for a good cause, The Children’s Cancer Association.

Our beer is Holden Caulfield. Modeled after an English Sparkling Ale, this peppery sipper has notes of alienation and cynicism, with a subconscious desire to belong. Our warehouse guy, Jordan, wrote the recipe for this beer incorporating malted and flaked rye, along with some German Vienna malt. He is heavy handed when it comes to the use of Palisade hops and this beer reflects that.

Totally Invasive – HUB & The Commons Collaboration Release Party

When: Tues. June 14, 6-9pm
Location: Hopworks Urban Brewery – 2944 SE Powell Blvd.
More Info

We all love getting outside into the majestic landscapes of the Pacific Northwest. Sometimes, though, pesky invasive plant species follow us there. So we decided to pull these plants up and put them to good use. On June 14, join us during PDX Beer Week for a few pints of Totally Invasive – a limited offering brewed in collaboration with The Commons Brewery.

Totally Invasive is a golden straw colored ale brewed with minimal hops in order to accentuate the delicate flavors and aromas of two invasive plant species. We added dandelion greens from our head brewer’s garden and Scotch Broom from the eastern side of Mt. Hood. Totally Invasive is also the first beer in our new Pub Series, which features limited run bottles of rare beers and is only available in bottles at our brewpubs.
