For the month of October, we are proud to donate 1% of our pint sales at all 3 pubs to Zenger Farm. Zenger Farm is a working urban farm that models, promotes and educates about sustainable food systems, environmental stewardship, community development and access to good food for all. At Zenger Farm, they believe that communities thrive when people have a direct connection to their food and where it grows.

Since 1999, Zenger Farm has been teaching people where good, healthy food comes from, how it grows and the importance of eating it every day. Zenger Farm utilizes a 24 acres combined organic farm and wetland to provide unique, hands-on learning opportunities for youth and adults. They teach about sustainable agriculture, environmental stewardship, hands-on outdoor science education, community food sovereignty, local economic development and healthy eating.

Zenger Farm educates about how to prepare wholesome, nutritious meals on a limited budget through their hands-on community programs. They were among the first farms in the United States to accept SNAP (formerly food stamps) for a share of the harvest with their Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program. Their innovative SNAP match program (Healthy Rewards) at the Lents International Farmers Market has been replicated by two dozen markets across the Metro region. 140 neighborhood families receive a weekly CSA vegetable and fruit share from Zenger Farm; 90% pay for their share with SNAP. 80 of the 140 families receive their share as a doctor’s prescription from their neighborhood Multnomah County Clinic through their program, CSA Partnerships for Health, which allows medical providers to prescribe a season’s worth of vegetable to food insecure families at risk of diet related diseases like diabetes.

Youth education at Zenger Farm provides hands-on educational activities in a natural environment. Their experiential and science-based programs teach kids of all backgrounds about food, farming, wetland conservation, and environmental stewardship. Zenger Farm’s current Youth Education encompasses multiple activities: Farm School, field trips, and camps.

We love Zenger Farm because they focus on serving families in the under supported neighborhoods that surround the farm and our SE pub. They host lots of programs throughout the year to keep our community connected with healthy food and education on the importance of sustainable farming, like their upcoming Winter camp for kids. Check out their fundraising Chef Dinner with Vitaly Paley, Cory Schreiber and Michelle Vernier on November 2nd or raise a pint to Zenger all month long and know a portion of your pint supports this wonderful organization.

Cheers!
